W.I.S.C. OVERVIEW - A LOOK AT THE WEST INDIAN
SOCIAL CLUB
Welcome to the the West Indian Social
Club of Hartford, Incorporated, Hartford’s premier
social organization for West Indian nationals.
Established in 1950, the West Indian
Social Club has served as the center of West Indian
cultural and social scene for Connecticut and Western
Massachusetts. Most, if not all of the Caribbean’s most
legendary entertainers which includes: Bob Marley, Byron
Lee and the Dragonaires, Phyllis Dillon, Sparrow,
Gregory Isaacs, Shabba Ranks, Bounty Killer, Krosfyah,
Burning Flames, David Rodigan, Stone Love and Square One
has graced our stages and has entertained audiences who
travel to our city from near and far.
The West Indian Social Club also produces
and hosts events, which includes the annual West Indian
Independence Celebration Week, which brings over 50,000
people to the city to participate in Celebration events.
The Miss West Indian Scholarship Pageant and the
Memorial Scholarship Program for West Indian Men are
also club sponsored events which awards 6 scholarships
to West Indian Students who wish to further their
education. The club also produces the annual Children's
Holiday Fiesta, Black History Month programs and Growth
and Development programs which includes First Time Home
Buyers workshop.

THE MISSION OF THE W.I.S.C.
The
purpose of the West Indian Social Club is to promote
loyalty and devotion among its members; to develop a
deeper sense of fellowship and unity; to aid its members
in cases of difficulties; to provide a satisfactory
means of engaging in and participating in proper
recreational, social educational activities; and to
develop fine and loyal citizens of the United States of
America.
To
provide a central place where West Indians and/or West
Indian Americans throughout the United States can
attend; to utilize the organization to link all West
Indians and West Indian Americans who are living in the
United States and throughout the world; to strive to
improve the community in which West Indians and West
Indian Americans live; and to work towards harmonious
and productive relationships with Americans
